“I work in the commercial department, so we do basically every national commercial or music video,” Dietrich said.
He lives about an 18-mile drive from where he works in Santa Monica, which is much closer to the Palisades fire.
The things he’s seen the last few days sound like something out of a movie.
“The day of when the fire started, when I was leaving work, I could see the fire from the 405 on my way home. It was pretty wild,” Dietrich said.
He didn’t see any flames Wednesday, but signs of the fire were still all over after his bosses sent everyone home as a precaution.
“When I was at work at San Monica it was basically driving into like a black cloud in the sky. Now it’s more of like a general gray haze, at least where I live. But yeah, going in, it was definitely strange to look at,” Dietrich said.
He said he has mostly been dealing with that smoke, spotty internet, and power outages.
Dietrich said he’s safe where he is right now and doesn’t need to move.
But added he’s had to think about it the past few days.
“Well, it’s definitely tense. The fire last night was definitely the closest that it’s been to where I live ... I was helping some of my friends who don’t have power. We thought about going back to their place because it’s farther from where that fire was last night,” he said.
Dietrich is working to keep his family updated and keeping an eye on the path of the fire.
