Suspicious package prompts bomb squad response at Miamisburg Best Buy Saturday

MIAMISBURG — UPDATE: 9:20 p.m.

Miamisburg Police told News Center 7′s John Bedell that writing on a package someone left at a Best Buy is what led them to close the store and call the bomb squad to the scene.

A Miamisburg PD sergeant would not confirm what the the message said, but that it led police to believe the package could be dangerous.

Witnesses reported hearing a loud boom at the scene, but the bomb squad determined there were no explosives in the package.

Officers said that the “boom” could have been someone shooting off fireworks in the area.

Police confirmed they are still working to figure out exactly what was inside that package, and who left it at the store.

The suspect could face inducing panic charges when they are caught.

INITIAL REPORT:

The Dayton bomb squad and Miamisburg Police evacuated the Best Buy near the Dayton Mall in Miamisburg Saturday afternoon.

Dispatch said crews were called out to a suspicious package around 2:40 p.m.

Mall Woods Drive and the entrance to Best Buy’s parking lot were both blocked off at the time of the investigation.

The package was not detonated at any point, according to the Miamisburg Police Department.

The Miamisburg Best Buy closed early Saturday due to to the investigation into the incident. No injuries were reported.
