In the statement, Biden said he’s been continually briefed on the “horrific incident” by both federal law enforcement and his homeland security team.

“My heart goes out to the victims and their families who were simply trying to celebrate the holiday. There is no justification for violence of any kind, and we will not tolerate any attack on any of our nation’s communities,” Biden said.

“I am grateful for the brave and swift response of local law enforcement in preventing even greater death and injury,” Biden said.

President-elect Donald Trump also acknowledged the attack in a post on TruthSocial, CBS News reported.

“Our hearts are with all of the innocent victims and their loved ones, including the brave officers of the New Orleans Police Department,” Trump said, in part.

President Biden has directed his team to ensure “every resource is available” as investigators work to learn why this attack happened.

As previously reported, police say a man intentionally drove a pickup truck through a crowd on Bourbon Street in the early hours of New Year’s Day. At least 10 people have been killed and over 30 were hurt.

The suspect also shot at law enforcement, injuring two police officers. New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said those officers are in stable condition.

The suspect died in a firefight with police.

Investigators were also investigating the discovery of “improvised explosive devices” that were found in the area.
