The game between the Georgia Bulldogs and Notre Dame Fighting Irish has been postponed for 24 hours and will be played Thursday night, according to Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley who spoke during a news conference Wednesday afternoon.
The game will now kickoff at 4 p.m. eastern Thursday, according to a social media post by the Sugar Bowl. The game was set to kick off tonight at 8:45 p.m. in New Orleans’ Caesars Superdome. Its a quarterfinal game in the College Football Playoff.
The postponement comes after a man, identified as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, intentionally drove a pickup truck through a crowd on Bourbon Street in the early hours of New Year’s Day, according to the FBI. At least 10 people were killed and over 30 were injured.

New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said during a press conference that the man drove through the barricades and hurtled down Bourbon Street in “very intentional behavior” before opening fire on officers.
“He was hellbent on creating the carnage and the damage that he did,” Kirkpatrick said. “It was very intentional behavior. This man was trying to run over as many people as he could.”
Kirkpatrick added that two police officers were hit by gunfire. They’re said to be in stable condition.
FBI investigators were also checking on “improvised explosive devices” that were found in the area.
The FBI confirmed that they are investigating the attack as “an act of terrorism.”
