A preliminary investigation showed that Simmons’ 2017 Nissan Altima was stopped on I-70 westbound after a previous crash. His car was then hit by a 2020 Freightliner semitrailer, driven by Roshaun Valentine, 38, of Montana. Both vehicles went off the right side of the road and caught fire.

Simmons was trapped inside of the Altima and was later pronounced dead on scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
