HARRISON TWP., Montgomery County — A man already in prison for leading police on a chase in February is now facing new charges, including vehicular homicide, after he was accused of hitting a motorcyclist and fleeing the scene months before.

Robert Bergman III, 26, of Brookville, was indicted Tuesday on vehicular homicide, failure to stop after an accident and tampering with evidence after deputies said he hit and killed a motorcyclist on Webster Street in October 2020.

The crash happened when Bergman pulled out in a semi truck from Timber Lane onto Webster and hit the motorcycle being driven by Dustin Miller, 21, of Dayton, according to a crash report. Miller died at the scene and deputies said Bergman drove off in the semi.

Bergman would end up being involved in a high-speed chase after he drove off from a traffic stop near Miamisburg. The pursuit ended up resulting in numerous cruisers getting damaged and a trooper being injured.

The chase happened in the early morning hours of Feb. 5.

Shortly after Bergman drove off from the traffic stop, troopers spotted the car traveling south on I-75 near Monroe and tried to stop it.

Cruiser camera video obtained by News Center 7 through a public records request shows what happened during the more than 20-minute pursuit.

Troopers eventually got Bergman stopped at the intersection of First and Main streets in Franklin, where Bergman tried to run but was caught.

Bergman was sent to prison for six years after he was sentenced in September on charges of failure to comply, attempted felonious assault and attempted possession of drugs related to the pursuit.
