CareFlight Air to launch Drive Smart for students at local high schools

MIAMI VALLEY — Premiere Health’s CareFlight Air and Mobile Services will be launching its Drive Smart program across Dayton area high schools.

It is a nationally recognized mock crash program that gives high school students a real-life look at the consequences of poor choices, specifically drinking and driving, before getting behind the wheel of a car.

The mock crash involves a scenario with two wrecked cars staged to represent a car accident scene and will also be performed by student actors, according to a Premiere Health spokesperson.

This includes bystanders calling 911, the arrival of police, fire and EMS, removal of victims from vehicles, arrival of the CareFlight helicopter, transporting injured crash victims, arrest of the intoxicated driver and removal of the deceased victim by the coroner with placement in a hearse, the spokesperson said..

It concludes with a parent who has lost child in similar situation speaking to the audience about drinking and driving.

The Drive Smart program will take place at these schools:

  • April 11- New Bremen High School at 2 p.m.
  • April 13- Anna High School- 10 a.m.
  • April 14- Mississinawa Valley High School- 9 a.m.
  • April 18- Vandalia Butler High School- 9:15 a.m.
  • April 19- Centerville High School- 9:25 a.m.
  • April 21- Middletown High School- 9 a.m.
  • April 24- Ansonia High School- 9:30 a.m.
  • April 25- Bradford High School- 1:30 p.m.
  • April 26- Xenia High School- 8:55 a.m.
  • May 2- Greenview High School- 9 a.m.
  • May 3- Greenon High School- 10 a.m.
  • May 4- Piqua High School- 9:30 a.m.
  • May 4- Minster High School- 1 p.m.

Drive Smart is free to area high schools.
