West Carrollton woman seriously injured after rear-ending semi on I-75 in Piqua

PIQUA — A West Carrollton woman has been flown to Miami Valley Hospital after she rear-ended a semitrailer on northbound Interstate 75 in Piqua.

The crash was reported about 3:49 p.m. south of the U.S. 36 exit, according to the Piqua Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Patrol Sgt. Brent Johnson said a 2023 Freightliner tractor-trailer combination was traveling at a low speed when it a blue Chevrolet sedan slammed into the rear of the semitrailer.

Johnson said rescue crews worked roughly two hours to free the driver, 36-year-old Jessica Stover.

Stover, who was the only occupant, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to the patrol.

The semi driver, Edems Cheristil, 36, of Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania, was not injured. There was a second crash in the area, with no injuries, according to the state patrol.

The interstate was reopened about 6 p.m., ending an hourslong shut down.

The crash remains under investigation, according to the state patrol.
