Aviator, Carillon Historical Park eaglet, has died

DAYTON — One of the Carillon Historical Park eaglet triplets died Saturday afternoon.

The park’s eagle expert Jim Weller confirmed Aviator, the large female juvenile, was electrocuted striking power lines outside of the Carillon Park Bicycle Shop. The incident happened around 3:00 p.m.

Weller said Aviator died instantly and painlessly.

“Flying free and exploring her new world, she was a very gracious sight to behold,” Weller said in a statement honoring the young eagle.

The Glen Helen Raptor Center is in possession of her remains.

Aviator, along with Navigator and Pilot, hatched in March and were first spotted in April. They took their first flights about two weeks ago.

This is not the first time the park has had to mourn the loss of an eaglet. In 2018, a female eaglet named Flyer was struck by a delivery truck while attempting to cross Interstate 75 in Dayton.
