Cat burned in fire spends second day recovering at animal shelter in Miami County

TIPP CITY — A cat seriously burned in a fire this week at a Trotwood apartment building remains at an animal shelter and rescue facility in Tipp City.

Fotis, as the male, approximately 1-year-old cat is being called by workers at Our Farm Sanctuary, is being treated overnight.

“So far, things are still looking hopeful,” according to an update posted to social media Thursday evening.

“He is continuing with hospitalization and oxygen as we want to exercise caution in his healing process.”

A vet at the facility believes the cat may have had long hair and the coat length may have prevented the burns from being any more serious.

According to the sanctuary’s social media post, a volunteer with the sanctuary went to the fire scene to get the cat, which reportedly jumped or fell from the top floor of the three-story apartment building.

As for the name, according to the sanctuary, the Greek word for fire is fotyia and the word related to fire is Fotis, which is a common name for boys. The name Fotis means “light,” according to the sanctuary.

News Center 7 and WHIO.com are still working to learn details about the fire, which occurred Wednesday afternoon. We’ve reached out to Trotwood police and we’re waiting to hear back.
