CELINA — A bus driver and aide who left a preschool student on the school bus in Celina have resigned.
“The two transportation department employees, Rebecca Gast and Carol Henderson, who were involved in the preschool bus incident on March 15, 2023, have resigned from their positions with Celina City Schools,” Dr. Kenneth J. Schmiesing, Superintendent of Celina, said in a statement.
News Center 7 previously reported earlier this month a preschool student was left on a school bus in Celina for three hours. After the incident, both the driver and aide were placed on administrative leave.
“There are protocols that are to be followed when a bus is parked, and the driver is leaving the bus after students are on it. Those procedures were not followed and the district will get to the bottom as to why, so that procedures can be put in place so that this does not occur again. The safety of our students is paramount,” Schmiesing previously said in a statement.

The Celina Police Department also investigated what happened; once their investigation was completed, the department referred the case to the county prosecutor’s office to review possible charges. The prosecutor’s office later said the driver and the aid would not face charges.
