The Officer John P. Kalaman Memorial Blood Drive will be held Thursday, April 27, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Centerville Police Department at the 150 block of West Spring Valley Drive, according to a Dayton Community Blood Center spokesperson.

Centerville Police officer John Kalaman and Washington Township firefighter Robert O’Toole were struck and killed by a motorist on January 12, 1998 while responding to a crash on Interstate 675.

Officer Kalaman’s parents, John and Paula, sponsored the first memorial blood drive in 1998 on their son’s birthday on April 27.

“We plan on being there from beginning to end, that’s for sure,” said John Kalaman. “Hopefully, it will be as good as in the past.”

Since then, over 4,400 pints of blood have been donated in Kalaman’s name.
