Centerville Schools to hold presentation on active threat response, ‘run, hide, fight’

CENTERVILLE — An area school district will hold a free presentation on how it plans to approach active threats.

Officer John Davis with the Centerville Police Department will host the presentation on Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. at the Centerville High School Central Theater.

Superintendent John Wesney said the presentation will focus on preparing students and staff to think about their best course of action if an intruder comes into the school.

The presentation will focus on the FBI’s “Run. Hide. Fight” active shooter protocol.

“What you do matters,” Davis said. “Your response can have a profound effect on the outcome of an active killer incident.”

Along with the event, Centerville will collect items to refill and complete classroom emergency kits throughout the district.

The district said in a release that they already have a number of security procedures in place including safety drills, school resource officers, surveillance equipment and a 24 hour anonymous tip line for safety concerns.

The meeting comes less than a week after false active shooter reports were called in across the state, causing multiple schools to be put on lockdown.
