CHAMPAIGN COUNTY — Health officials in Champaign County announced today that community members will receive important updates on when their COVID-19 window opens.

The county’s notification system, Code Red, already alerts community members of severe weather, missing children and evacuations. Now, the system will alert people of when certain groups will be able to receive the Covid vaccine.

“It’s instantaneous,” said Jim Freeman, Champaign County EMA director. “We can craft a message and once we decide to send it out, have that done within a minute.”

Those in Champaign County can register for Code Red online at champaignema.org.
