King is a veteran of the United States Air Force and was previously deployed to Afghanistan.

He said he’s “humbled and honored” to join Springfield Fire Rescue Division.

“I’m looking forward to serving alongside them, learning more about the organization, and becoming a part of the Springfield community,” King said.

Current chief Brian Miller announced he would be retiring earlier this year. 20 candidates applied for the position.
