SPRINGFIELD — About 18 miles of roadways in Clark County will be repaired this summer as part of a $1.3 million resurfacing project, according to the Clark County Engineer's Office.

The Board of Clark County Commissioners awarded the contract to Enon-based A&B Asphalt Corporation at the June 13 meeting.

The Engineer's Office prepares the bidding specifications and provides oversight of the contract for the different municipalities having roadwork completed, Clark County Engineer John Burr said.

"This partnership with the townships and municipalities saves tax dollars by combining the bid into one large project," Burr said. "In some cases, you can save up to one-third the cost of a project. This lets all agencies maximize their paving budgets."

The county is spending about $300,000 on its portion of the road project. The remainder of the project is being paid for by the other local governments where work is being completed.

The 2018 Road Resurfacing project is expected to begin later in June. It won't be completed until late fall.

A four-mile stretch of Broadgauge Road between Route 54 and Route 56 is being resurfaced by Clark County this year, as well as four different bridges on Upper Valley Pike, Baker Road, Sparrow Road and Mitchell Road.
