CLEARCREEK TOWNSHIP — Clearcreek Township Police Officer Eric Ney remains in critical condition more than a month after being wounded in the line of duty.

Chief John Terrill said Ney’s surgery today was canceled, but the initial surgery he had earlier this week did provide some relief. Ney has regained consciousness and is alert after being intubated and sedated through most of the week.

“They are now on a day by day basis to judge the value of that relief,” Terrill said. “Additional surgery is now on a day by day wait and see.”

Ney, a 14-year veteran of the force, was critically injured after he was shot across the face July 12 while responding to a domestic violence incident in the 5900 block of state Route 48.

He was discharged from a rehabilitation facility July 29 but was readmitted to Miami Valley Hospital on August 17.

We will continue providing updates on Ney’s condition as they become available.
