Commemorative license plate in the works for Black History Month

DAYTON — State Representative Willis Blackshear Jr. will be holding a press conference today to talk about his legislation to create a special license plate commemorating poet Paul Laurence Dunbar.

The conference will happen at 10:00 a.m. today, February 11, at the Paul Laurence Dunbar House, according to a press release.

Dayton native Paul Laurence Dunbar was one of the first internationally recognized African American poets.

Dunbar was recognized for his writing in his lifetime, publishing a newspaper, poetry, a novel, short stories, and plays.
