FAIRBORN — Fairborn City Schools are pushing back the start date for the 2022-23 school year.
The district was recently notified by the construction company working on Fairborn Intermediate School, which holds grades 3-5, that there would be a delay in opening the building.
Superintendent Gene Lolli told News Center 7′s Haley Kosik Monday afternoon that labor issues, as well as some supply chain issues in the winter, slowed the project up.

Lolli said the delay will impact the entire district, pushing the first day of school for students back from Aug. 18 to Sept. 6. Teachers will now start back on Aug. 30.
“It’s too difficult to keep different buildings on different schedules. That would cause a lot of conflict, so it’s just easier that every building stays on the same schedule,” Lolli said.
To ensure that the district’s last day of school is around Memorial Day weekend, the district will be adding 26 minutes to the school day.
“That will give us enough time where we’re not going until June 15,” Lolli said. “Because we still have one building left that’s still not air conditioned and its pretty brutal in that building.”

While the delay may inconvenience parents who need to make changes to things like daycare, Lolli said parents have been understanding.
“That’s the great thing about this community, even though you’d rather stay on your normal schedule, I think people are understanding. We’re getting new buildings and kids are going to be in the state of the art buildings with air conditioning,” he said.
Additional details regarding the delay will be made available to parents at a later time.
