Construction project to affect traffic on major U.S. 35 exit in Dayton

DAYTON — A major reconstruction project on Washington Street in Dayton will impact traffic near a busy U.S. 35 exit for the rest of 2019 and possibly into 2020, according to the city.

Washington Street will be reconstructed between South Jefferson and South Perry streets in a project that could continue into the early months of 2020, the city said in a media release Monday.

The first phase of the project, which began Tuesday, restricts westbound traffic on Washington Street, from the U.S. 35 West exit through South Perry Street.

This first phase also blocks southbound turns from Washington Street onto South Main and South Ludlow streets.

However during the first phase, eastbound traffic on Washington Street will remain open, according to the city.

The city did not indicate when the next phases in the project are scheduled to start. Next phases will change traffic patterns in the area again when they are implemented, according to the city.

DETOURS: 

Cars exiting from U.S. 35 West are routed onto northbound South Jefferson Street towards downtown Dayton.

From South Jefferson Street, vehicles can turn left to travel west on West Fifth Street.

From West Fifth Street, drivers can access southbound South Main and South Ludlow streets.
