Coronavirus: 1 child care center sees 10+ case outbreak since pandemic began in Miami Valley

MIAMI VALLEY — The Ohio Department of Jobs and Family services said Monday that there has been one child care center in the Miami Valley that has seen an outbreak of at least 10 cases since the pandemic began in March.

News Center 7 first reported on that outbreak, which was at Victorum Learning Center in Dayton, which had 18 cases associated with it in mid-June.

On June 24, Montgomery County had reported only the 18 cases from Victorum Learning Center to the state. Sixteen days later, on July 10, Montgomery County’s cases connected to child care center’s rose to 47 positive cases, according to data from ODJFS.

Under Ohio Department of Health orders, child care centers must report coronavirus cases involving its students or staff.

On Monday, ODJFS reported Montgomery County now has a total of 78 cases linked to child care facilities, an increase of 31 cases in 38 days.

Butler County was the only other county in the Miami Valley to report double digit cases linked to child care facilities in the last 38 days, with 11 new cases reported.
