Coronavirus: Area high school stadium lights shone bright at 8:20 p.m. to honor graduating seniors

MIAMI VALLEY — UPDATE @ 8:58 p.m.: Remote learning has senior year looking a little different for the graduating classes of 2020, but many area high schools turned on their stadium lights for 20 minutes at 8:20 tonight as a tribute to seniors.

The time 8:20 p.m. in military time is 20:20, making the time that schools put on their lights symbolic.

“We will light up our stadium for 20 minutes showing respect for all the class of 2020, and everything they have lost out on during these difficult times! We miss you all! Go Trojans!” read the announcement on Arcanum-Butler School’s Facebook page.

Many schools participated in the celebration, including Arcanum, Fairborn, Springfield, Centerville, Carroll, Piqua, Springboro.

“We encourage all Piqua households to turn on your porch lights to help us light up the city in support of these young men and women of our community,” Piqua City Schools announced.

Area high schools were quick to join Monday night’s effort to make an unusual year for seniors as special as possible.
