Coronavirus: Ohio reports over 6,500 new COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations break record

MIAMI VALLEY — A record-breaking 6,508 new coronavirus cases were reported in Ohio Tuesday and hospitalizations also set a new record with 386 reported.

Intensive Care Unit admissions also were above the 21-day average with 39 admissions. The 21-day average has been 23.

The state’s testing positivity rate rose again to 9.6%, which is the highest its been since the state announced an expansion of testing in May.

As of Tuesday afternoon, there have been at least 261,482 confirmed or probable cases in the state, 5,547 deaths, and 21,037 hospitalizations, according to the Ohio Department of Health. 189,079 people are presumed to have recovered from the virus in the state.

Ohio has an estimated population of approximately 11.7 million, census records show.

There have been 4,950,007 people tested for the coronavirus in Ohio, according to the Ohio Department of Health.

A total of 23,654 health care workers have tested positive, which is about 9 percent of the cases.
