INITIAL REPORT:

Preble County Public Health has identified a coronavirus outbreak at Greenbriar Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where 56 people have tested positive for the virus.

Of the positive cases, 38 people are residents and 18 are workers. All tested positive through the molecular PCR test, which is viewed as the most reliable testing style by many health professionals.

Twelve of the people, including eight residents and three employees have been hospitalized as a result of the outbreak.

“Resources including additional PPE and members of the Ohio National Guard have been dispatched to the facility from local and state partners,” Public Health said in a statement. “The residents of the Greenbriar Nursing and Rehabilitation Center were tested as the result of two employees testing positive.”

The outbreak is one of at least three at Miami Valley long-term care facilities in recent weeks.

Last week, Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville had the most single-week cases in the state at its facility with 59 cases reported. This week, Rest Haven is now reporting an additional seven cases.

This week an outbreak also was reported at Oakwood Village in Springfield. The facility reported 22 resident cases and 20 staff members to the Ohio Department of Health.
