Coroner identifies man killed in Kettering shooting

KETTERING — The Montgomery County Coroner’s Officer has identified the man killed in a shooting in Kettering on Friday.

The coroner has identified the man as Leo August, 67.

News Center 7 previously that Kettering police arrested 37-year-old Justin August after a 911 call brought them to the 2700 block of Haig Avenue.

Kettering Police originally told News Center 7 that the Leo August was 62-years-old.

“I had been standing over here and I heard about 15 to 20 popping sounds,” said Matisen Merkle.

Kettering police said they received several 911 calls Friday afternoon.

“A lot of cops start pulling up, we see cops running down the street with guns, I think 8 of them ran past,” Merkle said.

Neighbors say they went inside for safety at that point. Police say they discovered a 62-year-old man dead inside the home.
