RICHMOND, INDIANA — A 78-year-old man was killed in a small airplane crash just before 8 a.m. Sunday.
Judson Costlow, of Richmond, Indiana, was flying a yellow A240 Aerotrek plane when it crashed after departure, into a field a half-mile south of the Richmond Municipal Airport, according to Sgt. Coley McCutcheon, Public Information Officer for the Pendleton Post of Indiana State Police and the Federal Aviation Administration.
Wayne County dispatchers received 911 calls stating that a small plane was on fire.
Crews arrived at the scene and began putting out the flames.

Costlow was the only person in the plane at the time of the crash.
According to the Indiana State Police, Costlow was traveling to Arizona to visit family.
The plane was registered to Costlow and his wife.
The FAA has taken over the investigation.
Officers are currently unsure what caused the small plane to crash.
