DAYTON — Dayton police have opened a homicide investigation after a shooting on Larkswood Drive involving a 14-year-old, according to a Dayton police report.
Azarion Melvin, 14, of Dayton, was found shot to death inside a home in the 1900 block of Larkswood Saturday night, according to the coroner’s office and police.
A 911 caller called and reported that Melvin was shot in the head inside the house, according to initial dispatch records.

“Upon arrival they made contact with several individuals who reported discovering a deceased juvenile male inside the residence,” said Dayton Police Lt. Jason Hall. “Homicide investigators responded to the scene to investigate and initial indications are that the deceased juvenile was acquainted with persons at the residence but did not reside at the home.”
How the shooting happened was not immediately clear and a 911 caller who found the teen also was not sure how the shooting happened.
The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office has not said whether someone else killed Melvin or if it was accidental or a self-inflicted injury.
