Crash killing 3 teens in Riverside connected to spree of deadly Montgomery County violence

MONTGOMERY COUNTY — A series of eight violent crimes involving teens in Montgomery County have kept detectives busy the last month and now police are saying at least some of the violence is connected.

A deadly crash that left three teens dead after a robbery attempt at the Airway Shopping Center last week is one of them, police said.

“Absolutely, our shooting at Troy and Community, the traffic crash triple fatality on Airway and several other shootings and at least one homicide in Dayton look to involve one group of young juvenile males,” said Riverside Maj. Matt Sturgeon.

Sturgeon said Riverside police are working with detectives and a crime analyst with the Dayton police department on the cases.

“A majority of this violent crime involves continued back-and-forth retaliation over a recent homicide,” said Dayton Police Assistant Chief Matt Carper. “Over the past few weeks multiple individuals divided roughly into two groups have been associated with multiple felonious assaults, shootings into habitations and one homicide.”

Police have not said specifically what crimes are linked, however at least eight crimes involving teenagers in the last month have been reported in Dayton, Riverside and Montgomery County.
