HARRISON TWP. — UPDATE @ 1:50 a.m: Fire officials say county-wide water issues after Monday's tornadoes and severe storms caused them to run into problems while battling a garage fire on Ottello Avenue early Wednesday.

“No water was coming out of the hydrant”, said Chief Mark Lynch with Harrison Twp. Fire Department.

“We had to wait for water resources to assist us on scene”, he said.

Each fire truck holds 750 gallons of water and even with multiple trucks on scene, Chief Lynch said firefighters ran out of water when attempting to extinguish the blaze.

Crews were dispatched on reports of a car on fire inside an attached garage in the 2400 block around 12:30 a.m.

The blaze, which was upgraded to a two-alarm fire, reportedly spread to the home.

Once additional water arrived on scene, firefighters were able to knock the fire down.

A family was home at the time of the fire and were able to escape unharmed. Two cats had to be rescued by fire crews.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The city of Dayton and Montgomery County water customers are under a boil advisory after five tornadoes damaged the area on Monday.

Residents have been asked to decrease water use during the advisory.
