The fire was reported around 7:35 a.m. in the 3200 block of Carlton Drive in Riverside. Crews initially reported heavy flames and smoke were coming from the house when the first arrived on the scene.

Four people inside the house were able to evacuate before firefighters arrived on scene. One of those victims was taken to an area hospital as a precaution for non-life threatening injuries, investigators said.

Crews had a difficult time battling the fire because there were no nearby fire hydrants. Extra tanker trucks were requested before firefighters were able to get a water supply from a hydrant that was over 1,500 feet away from the house.

The fire and smoke caused significant damage to the house and it is believed the structure will be deemed a total loss, firefighters said.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
