UPDATE @ 8:05 p.m.

Three dogs, including one hiding upstairs, were rescued tonight from a Riverside house fire that has displaced a family of six.

The residents, three adults and three children, left to get food and returned to find their home in the 600 block of Haldeman Avenue engulfed, Battalion Chief Shon Smith of the Riverside Fire Department said.

The fire was reported sometime after 6:30 p.m., Smith said. Riverside, Dayton and Huber Heights fire crews responded to the blaze, and firefighters reported there were no working smoke detectors.

The fire appears to have started in the rear, but it’s uncertain whether it was inside or outside. An investigator from Dayton was called to the scene.

“It doesn’t seem suspicious at this time,” Smith said.
