MAD RIVER TWP., Clark County — UPDATE @ 2:45 a.m. (Dec. 14):
A 73-year-old Springfield man was identified as the pickup truck driver who was killed in a crash with a semi Friday night in the 5500 block of Dayton Springfield Road.

Harold Fitch drove his 1998 Chevrolet Silverado underneath a commercial semi-trailer that was backing into a private driveway, according to a release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Springfield Post.
He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Dayton Springfield Road was closed until about midnight while a crash reconstruction team investigated the crash.
Speed and alcohol are not suspected factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
INITIAL REPORT:
One person was killed Friday night after a pickup truck was lodged underneath a semitrailer.
The deadly crash was reported around 8:10 p.m. in the 5500 block of Dayton Springfield Road, near Taylor’s Tavern.
“A commercial truck was backing into a private driveway, and as it was backing into his driveway a pickup truck did not see it, wound up underneath the trailer,” said Ohio State Highway Patrol Sgt. David Slanker of the patrol’s Springfield Post.

The pickup truck driver was not yet named.
Slanker said it remains under investigation why the pickup driver did not stop for the truck.
Both directions of the roadway were shut down for several hours following the crash for the investigation.
