YELLOW SPRINGS — The old power plant at Glen Helen in Yellow Springs has been brought down.

Crews had to try three times to knock over the tower.

The demolition will impact part of the bike trail.

The Little Miami Scenic Trail at Grinnell Road, at the opening of Glen Helen, will be closed so crews can take down the smoke stack.

“I feel like it is pretty iconic, not going to lie to you,” said Bridget Padilla of Yellow Springs. “I just don’t want to say a staple piece of the glen, but it’s like part of it you know, as you’re walking around the glen you see it pretty often.”

“I’m a little said about it honestly,” Emily Fried told News Center 7. “I think it’s going to be pretty cool after to see it return to the glen and all that jazz.”

Once torn down, the Glen Helen Association has said it intends to restore the site back to nature.
