Around 5 p.m. crews were called to the 700 block of Arlington Road to reports of a car into a pole, according to Sgt. Bradley Hess with Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Hess said when crews arrived on the scene they reported a single car had crashed into a pole, trapping the single occupant inside.

Walter Kellison, 85, of Brookville was identified as the victim.

Brookville fire crews were able to free Kellison from his car but he was seriously injured. Kellison was taken to Miami Valley Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, state troopers said.

An initial investigation found that the man was driving eastbound on Upper Lewisburg Salem Road when he traveled off the ride side of the roadway for an unknown reason, striking a fence and then a traffic light pole.

All lanes were blocked in the intersection of Arlington Road and Upper Lewisburg Salem Road as crews cleared the crash, but have since been reopened.
