Car crosses over median, hits semi on Ohio 4; driver in critical condition

DAYTON — UPDATE @ 3:20 p.m.: 

Northbound lanes of Ohio 4 were reopened shortly before 3 p.m., according to dispatchers.

UPDATE @ 1:40 p.m. 

Southbound lanes of Ohio 4 have reopened at Valley Street, but northbound lanes remain shut down, Dayton police said in a tweet Monday afternoon.

Earlier, police said northbound lanes are expected to be shut down until at least 2 p.m.

UPDATE @ 1:05 p.m.: 

Both directions of Ohio 4 remain blocked at the Ohio 444 exit in Dayton following a morning crash that critically injured a driver.

The southbound lanes of Ohio 4 could reopen by 1:30 p.m., according to police, but officers are still waiting on tow trucks to arrive.

The northbound lanes are expected to be shut down until at least 2 p.m., so crews can completely unload the semi-truck then tow it from the scene.

Around 7:30 a.m. Monday, a sedan traveling north on Ohio 4 crossed over the median and crashed into a semi, according to Dayton police. The semi went across the median and jackknifed across the northbound lanes.

The driver of the sedan is still listed in critical condition at Miami Valley Hospital, according to investigators.

UPDATE @ 9:20 a.m.: 

The driver of a sedan involved in a crash with a semi-truck on Ohio 4 in Dayton suffered critical injuries, according to Dayton police.

The Buick sedan was traveling north on Ohio 4 near Harshman Road when it crossed over into the southbound lanes and hit a semi, investigators said. The semi then crossed over across the median and jackknifed in the northbound lanes.

A third vehicle involved suffered only minor damage from debris, police said.

The driver of the sedan, only identified as a man, was transported to Miami Valley Hospital and is listed in critical condition.

Police said they are unsure what caused the vehicle to go across the median and into the southbound lanes.

Both directions of Ohio 4 are expected to be blocked until at least 10 a.m. for police to finish their investigation.

Northbound traffic is being diverted onto Ohio 444 while southbound traffic is being diverted to Valley Street.

The incident was dispatched around 7:25 a.m. with reports of at least one person trapped in their vehicle,  per initial reports.

Northbound traffic will be rerouted to Ohio 444 and southbound traffic will be diverted onto Valley Street.

A reconstructive unit has also reportedly been called to the scene.
