DAYTON — A grass fire near Becker Drive in Dayton resulted in over two acres of burnt grass.
Dayton Fire District Chief Andrew Wiley told News Center 7 that his crews were called to a grass fire around 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Wiley said when they arrived on the scene they saw acres of burning grass but were able to get hose lines down quickly and stop the spread of the fire.
The fire was close to a group of houses but did not spread to them.

“This time of year there’s not a lot of moisture in the grass, so with high winds it’s able to spread the fire very quickly,” Wiley said.
He added that today is not a good day to have a bonfire.
No one was injured in the fire according to Wiley.
