MIAMI VALLEY — A statewide burn ban from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. went into effect Tuesday, March 1 and will continue until May 31.

This ban includes burning of yard waste, trash, and debris, even in a proper burn barrel.

The ban has been issued by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.

High winds and low moisture in the ground has resulted in multiple grass fires across the Miami Valley Saturday.

Dayton crews battled an over two-acre grass fire in a field behind Becker Drive around 2:30 p.m.

Dayton Fire District Chief Andrew Wiley told News Center 7 that the high winds caused the fire to spread through the field quickly.

Versailles fire crews responded to a grass fire at a residence near Burch Road.

Crews on scene told News Center 7 that pockets of grass caught on fire up and down the railroad tracks near the area and into a wooded area.
