1 in critical condition after apartment fire in Dayton

DAYTON — UPDATE: 9:00 a.m.

One person was seriously injured after a fire broke out in Dayton Sunday morning.

According to Matt McClain, District Chief of the Dayton Fire Department, crews were called to respond to a structure fire in a three-unit apartment building in the 700 block of Xenia Avenue.

“When crews arrived on scene, we had one window broken out with smoke coming from it, and we had a fire victim hanging out the window,” McClain said.

McClain said crews were able to quickly throw a ladder up to the victim, who was on the second floor and successfully bring them down and get them in a medic unit for treatment.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries from the fire and is in critical condition, McClain said.

Fire crews completed a search of the rest of the apartment building and located one other victim in the apartment that was uninjured.

There were no other injuries reported in the other two apartment units, McClain said.

McClain said there was minor damage to the one apartment unit that caught fire. The fire was contained to the front bedroom in the unit.

The occupants of the other units were not displaced and were able to go back inside.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time.

Firefighters in Montgomery County are responding to a structure fire at the 700 block of Xenia Ave.

According to initial reports, there are possible entrapments, and medics were dispatched.
