SHELBY COUNTY — Around 100 firefighters across five counties were called to battle a massive fire at a Shelby County trucking business Sunday night, according to firefighters.

The fire was reported around 6:40 p.m. Sunday at Shelby Transport in the 14,000 block of state Route 65, about two miles south of Jackson Center.
Crews reported the building, a large steel workshop for the company, was well engulfed in smoke an flames when firefighters arrived and forced crews to battle the blaze defensively from the outside, Jackson Center Fire Chief Jerry Davis told News Center 7 Monday morning.

The fire prompted a four-alarm response with around 100 firefighters from departments in Shelby, Auglaize, Champaign, Logan, and Miami counties, Davis said. Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers helped to block off roads to allow crews to fight the blaze.
The building is considered a total loss, along with six tractors inside. A total cost of the damage was not yet available, Davis said. The fire took about two and a half hours to put out.
The Salvation Army provided food and water to firefighters, who were able to clear around midnight.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. With the building being a workspace for the company, Davis said there were several items inside the building like diesel and propane that helped fuel the fire.
