MONTGOMERY COUNTY — Fire crews are responding to reports of a building collapse in Montgomery County Tuesday evening, an Englewood Police and Fire dispatcher confirmed.

Around 7:30 p.m., Brookville fire crews were dispatched to the 4600 block of North Sulphur Springs for reports of a building collapse, according to Brookville Fire Chief Ron Fletcher.

Fletcher said the building that collapsed was one of three on a corner that were part of planned demolition with Perry Township and the Montgomery County Land Bank.

The building has been slowly collapsing for years and it is likely the wind from storms Tuesday evening resulted in the partial collapse, Fletcher said.

No one was found inside the building and neighbors confirmed that no one had been in or around the building for weeks.

Perry Township officials will have to consult their legal counsel to determine what’s next for the building.

Neighbors said hearing the building had collapsed was not surprising.

“It was bound to happen anyway. I mean, the house is very, very old,” Stacey Heysman said. “It’s sad to see it go but it’s kind of dangerous.”
