Police investigate road rage as possible factor in Springfield crash; 1 in critical condition

SPRINGFIELD — The driver of the truck is in critical condition after crashing near Columbus Avenue in Springfield around 9:45 p.m. Saturday.

Investigators say they are working to determine if a road rage incident may have lead up to the crash.

Three other people who were in the 2009 Chevrolet Silverado at the time of the crash were taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center then transferred to Miami Valley Hospital.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver was travelling eastbound on Columbus Avenue when the truck entered a curve too fast, went off the left side of the road, and struck a utility pole and a tree.

Power lines fell onto the truck and power in the area was lost for many hours.

Ohio Edison has been working to restore the power.

Excessive speed and alcohol are also suspected to be contributing factors in the crash.
