Indiana man killed in Darke County shooting; Dayton man arrested on murder charge

DARKE COUNTY — An Indiana man was killed and a Dayton man has been arrested following a shooting in Darke County Sunday afternoon, according to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies and medics were called to the 100 block of West Main Street in Gettysburg around 4:20 p.m. Sunday on reports of a shooting, deputies said in a media release Sunday night.

A preliminary investigation found two men, identified as Layton White, 29, of Union City, Indiana, and Eric Martin, 27, of Dayton were involved in an altercation that escalated into gunfire, deputies said.

White was shot and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Martin fled the scene but was later located in Troy by the Miami County Sheriff’s Office and Troy Police Department, deputies said.

Darke County Detectives filed a complaint charging Martin with murder and he is currently booked into the Darke County Jail.

The shooting remains under investigation.
