FAIRBORN — A woman was killed in a fire at a Fairborn apartment building early Tuesday morning, according to firefighters.

Arlene Dunaway, 71, was identified as the victim, according to the Fairborn Fire Department.

Crews were called to the 700 block of West Xenia Drive around 1:30 a.m. on an initial call of an unknown medical alarm from a unit, Fairborn Fire Chief David Reichert told News Center 7. However when crews got on scene, they found flames coming from the structure and requested additional crews to respond.

Reichert said when firefighters entered the unit there was a significant amount of fire inside the unit.

The fire was confined to the one unit and didn’t spread to surrounding apartments, Reichert said.

No other people were at the residence.

A cause of the fire is still being determined.
