Crews work to contain structure fire in Shelby County

PERRY TWP. — UPDATE: 5:15 PM

Several fire crews throughout Shelby County responded to a multiple story house fire in the 19,000 block of State Route 706 Sunday afternoon.

Port Jefferson Fire Chief Tom Fitchpatrick told News Center 7 Crew that the fire started in the garage and then spread to the rest of the house.

The ceiling of the house collapsed, and the home is now deemed a total loss, according to Fitchpatrick .

The two people who were in the home made it out safely and did not need to be transported to the hospital.

Ammunition found in the home was also reported to have fired, but was not the cause of the garage catching on fire nor did it result in any injuries.

The cause of fire is still under investigation, but firefighters say a wood burning stove is currently being looked into as the reason.

Several fire departments helped put the fire including Quincy Fire Department, Fletcher, Sidney, Maplewood, and Rosewood.
