Firefighters were dispatched at 2:19 p.m. Wednesday to the McDonald’s on Commerce Drive after receiving reports that a man working on the sign was stuck on top of it.

“He’s on a 135-foot man lift,” a caller told 9-1-1 dispatchers.

According to the caller, the man’s lift was in tilt mode and could not move up or down.

“In order for us to get it unstuck, we have to have him out of the platform,” the caller said. “OSHA rule says he has to come out of the platform before we try to straighten the lift.”

The worker was rescued at 3:15 p.m. after a little less than an hour.

“While the temperature was below freezing. the trapped worker and rescuers suffered no weather-related injuries,” Middletown Fire Chief Paul Lolli said.

The Butler County Technical Rescue Team worked with the Middletown Division of Fire to safely get the man back to the ground.
