MIAMI TWP. — A Miami Twp. police officer who shot and killed a 33-year-old man in December 2017 will not face criminal charges, according to the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office.

A Montgomery County grand jury returned a no true bill to criminal charges for Miami Twp. officer James McCarty, according to a report released Wednesday morning.
McCarty shot and killed Robert Edwards after officers were dispatched to Edwards’ home Dec. 20. on reports of a suicidal person.
Police said earlier Edwards confronted officers while holding a what appeared to be a handgun and refused to drop it after police gave him several commands.
The weapon Edwards was carrying was later found to be a pellet gun, investigators said.
