MIAMI TWP., Montgomery County — Cruiser camera footage from a police cruiser shows the moments a pickup truck wanted in connection to a shooting in Miami Twp. crashes.
The silver pickup fled from Moraine officers who attempted to stop it just before the intersection of Dryden and Nicholas roads several minutes after the shooting took place at the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel on Prestige Place Wednesday.
After the crash, two men flee from the vehicle. One was caught almost immediately and the other is still on the run.
Miami Twp. police identified Jesse Shepherd, 28, as a person of interest in the shooting at 300 Prestige Place around 1:30 p.m. He was not in custody Thursday morning.
Jail and dispatch records show Miami Twp. Police arrested Dennis Lamar Taylor while investigating the shooting, however his role was not immediately known. He was booked on a preliminary charge of felonious assault.
Officers responded to the hotel after a worker reported a man shot in the head outside the main lobby.
“I need the police and the paramedics. There’s a gunshot victim right outside of my lobby,” a hotel worker told 9-1-1 dispatchers. "He's laying by the SUV right now."
The victim was taken to Kettering Medical Hospital, where he was in surgery Wednesday night. An updated condition was not immediately available.
The 9-1-1 caller was quickly able to provide a description of the pickup truck that fled from the hotel’s parking lot, which led police to spot the vehicle on I-75 driving north from Ohio route 725.
A manhunt for the second suspect was underway for a couple hours near the Sandy’s Towing lot and an OSHP aviation unit responded to help look for the second suspect. The search was suspended around 4 p.m.
