Dayton Lt. Steven Bauer said a police sergeant noticed a car being driven erratically and initiated a traffic stop. According to the incident report filed overnight, after the Wednesday night incident, the driver reportedly was non compliant.

He wasn't sure if it was a medical condition or something else, Bauer said. The traffic stop turned into a life-threatening stop once the sergeant got out of the cruiser, he said.

"The driver attempted to strike him with the vehicle," the lieutenant said, then "turned the vehicle directly toward him, gunned the acceleration and struck the police cruiser.

He proceeded to drive away from the stop, nearly striking the officer but ramming the cruiser.

"Fortunately, the sergeant was able to move out of the way."

Farr sped through neighborhoods, reaching speeds of 60 mph or more, along Rockford Avenue to Kenilworth Avenue before abandoning the Mazda he was driving in an alley on Kenwood Avenue.

Officers searched the area, located Farr and apprehended him after a short foot chase.

Besides the charges for which he was jailed, Farr was issued citations for reckless operation, driving with no license, illegal window tint, failure to signal from the curb, and possession.
