Darke County Sheriff’s Office mourns loss of retired K9

DARKE COUNTY — The Darke County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of one of their retired K9′s.

Retired K9 Deputy Eric served the Darke County community for seven years until his retirement in August 2021.

K9 Deputy Eric was certified in drug detection, tracking and article search. He was also a full-time patrol dog.

Eric spent his retirement at home with his handler, Deputy Jay Pearson, and his family.

“We will always be grateful for his service,” the Sheriff’s office said in a social media post.

The Sheriff’s Office thanked the veterinary staff that helped car for Eric during both his service and final days. Additionally, they thanked Tribute Funeral Home’s Pet Memorial Service for donating their services in memorializing the K9.
