DASH CAM: Officer injured after grabbing onto fleeing driver’s van; teen wanted

DAYTON — A teen is wanted after police said he tried to run over two officers and dragged two others earlier this month.

Police identified the driver as Taesean Winn. He stands 5 feet, 10 inches and weighs 150 pounds, police said.

Police said Winn went on a chaotic crime spree Dec. 3 in a stolen vehicle that endangered police officer's lives.

In the first incident, a vehicle jumped a curb and tried to run over two officers, Lt. Randy Beane said earlier this month.

"The officers were clearly targeted just for being police officers," the lieutenant said.

Police found and seized that vehicle, which was empty. Officers soon learned a second vehicle had been taken.

Minutes later, two police officers on an unrelated call at South Gettysburg and Maywood avenues saw the second vehicle and tried to initiate a traffic stop.

Cruiser camera footage obtained by News Center 7 shows police pull over a minivan on South Gettysburg Avenue in the area of Maywood Avenue.  As officers approached the minivan a woman, who court records identified as Winn’s mother, exits and police look inside the windows.

Suddenly, the minivan takes off and an officer grabs hold of the side of the moving vehicle, eventually losing his grip about 50 yards down the road. The officer had a head injury and some road rash.

Winn’s mother Tracy was arrested and charged on three counts of obstructing justice, however court records show those charges have since been dismissed.

Lt. Jason Hall said that the officer is now out of the hospital. He said everyone involved is grateful the injuries weren't more serious.

"It is not unheard of that officers have been seriously injured and even killed," Hall said. "But (the officer) is home recovering."

He said Dayton police take officers' safety seriously and there is no such thing as a minor incident when officers' lives are at stake.

Anyone who knows where Winn may be is asked to call Miami Valley Crime Stoppers at 222-STOP.
